About the MQHYA
The Maritime Quarter Horse Youth Association is a program dedicated to the involvement of youth in showing and taking part in activities to encourage and promote the American Quarter Horse.
Affiliated with the American Quarter Horse Youth Association, which is the largest, single-breed youth association in the world, the MQHYA offers a variety of different programs and activities from showing, trail riding, youth general meetings and many out of show events that make it such a great and successful program.
MQHA shows are held at the Princess Louise Park Show Center, located in Sussex, New Brunswick. Our shows offer many exciting and fun activities for the youth including MQHA futurity and jackpot classes, evening activities and lots of fund raising programs that all the youth can get involved in. The MQHYA also offers to send competitors to other AQHA affiliated shows located in Maine, Massachusetts's, and even to the All American Quarter Horse Congress located in Ohio and the AQHYA World Championship Show held in Oklahoma.

SUMMER SIZZLER YOUTH TEAM TOURNAMENT - John Hughes said he put on a thousands miles and did not go anywhere, but according to all he did a AWESOME job with his helpers to get the youth team tournament under way. Everything went well - SIX TEAMS - 38 COMPETITORS including Small Fry, games night, finger foods, a dance (after the hydro came back on), an opening meeting and the closing ceremonies.
At the closing ceremonies, each team carried a banner they designed and made themselves. Dean Shipley was a geat MC, introducing everyone from the teams. Elyssa Lewis, MQHYA president and Shonda Wilson, MQHA president each gave a little speech. (Shonda had to hire a speech writer - who knew John had a hidden talent).
The team standing were as the following:
1st Place - SENSATIONAL (264 POINTS) - Elyssa Lewis (captain), Jenna Hughes, Lauren White, Alyssa Youssef, Maddie Hood and Hayden McLean
2nd Place - TEAM GRAND (252 POINTS) - Taylor Fielding (captain), Keisha Foss, Jenny Fowler, Robert Thibodeau, Amelia Pinet-Dore, Hannah Perkins
3rd Place - ROCK ROLL COWGIRLS (241 POINTS) - Erin Steeves (captain), Katherine Cormier, Madison Holmes, Katelyn Handren, Mercedes Brawn, Taylor Arsenault, Katurah Fowler
4th Place - THE BABES & THE BOY (236 points) - Leah Currie (captain), Anika Hodgson, Chelsea Perry, Justin Hughes, Bridget Gates, Lauren Smith
5th Place - ONE HOT MESS (223 POINTS) - Brittany Watts (captain) , Bracken Lavaette, Cara Steeves,Fiona Cunningham, Tiffany Fillier, MAtthew McLean, Erin White
6th Place - TEAM WHOA - winner of the banner contest - Sarah Connors (captain), Mikelya Jamison, Robyn Cypher, SArah Langis, Erin Corkum, Jenny Cunningham, Leslis Hinton.
